Myths and Facts – Let`s Bust Some Tyre Myths

Facts Over Fiction – Let`s Bust Some Tyre Myths

If you repeat outright nonsense often enough, even the brightest bulbs in the chandelier will begin to think it`s the truth. When it comes to tyres though, let`s stick with the actual truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, because your safety (and our sanity) depends on it.

Myth:    As long as there`s tread on a tyre, it doesn`t matter how old the tyre is…
Truth:    Trust us it matters. Rubber perishes with age and exposure to the elements. Even a tyre that has never been driven can degrade and become unsafe. Check old tyres carefully for hairline cracks or bring them to us for a free inspection.

Myth:    The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) inflates your tyres…
Truth:    Hang on, we`re still laughing… Okay, NO! TPMS can`t inflate a tyre, only indicate when a tyre`s pressure has dropped below a safe level, but if you`re an inventor, there`s something to work on.

Myth:    Nitrogen can make your tyres explode…
Truth:    Not even close. Nitrogen is a non-flammable, inert gas and unlike oxygen, does not support combustion. What nitrogen does do for your tyres, is to make them run cooler and last longer.
