Spring has sprung and the automotive fitment centre chain, TYRES & MORE® is encouraging motorists to follow suit and spring into high gear in your efforts to make our roads safer.
“It`s an ‘out with the old, in with the new` time of year, which makes it the ideal opportunity to break bad driving habits and give your car a safety spring-clean at the same time,†said Marketing Manager, Natashé Taljaard.
Distracted driving is probably the most dangerous bad habit and one that is at least partially due to a growing desire for instant gratification. Heaven forbid we make someone wait for a reply to their SMS!
“While cell phone usage is the big bad wolf of road safety, it`s not the only culprit. Sometimes the biggest danger to your safety comes not from what you`re doing while driving, but from what you didn`t do before driving. Routine vehicle maintenance should be routine, or things start to fall apart and your safety becomes compromised,†Taljaard added.
TYRES & MORE®`S Top 4 Driving Dangers and Tips for Improvement:
Texting and cell phone usage, grooming and fiddling with the radio. These behaviours take your eyes off the road, your mind off driving and your hands off the steering wheel. Tip: It can wait!
Worn wiper blades. Being unable to clearly see what`s in front of you is exceedingly dangerous. Tip: Replace your wiper blades every year before the rainy season begins in your region.
Tyre blowouts. Tyres blowout for several reasons but mostly because they are worn, underinflated or the vehicle is overloaded, or all three.Tip: Make sure you have at least the minimum legal 1 mm of tread remaining, and routinely inflate tyres to the manufacturer`s specifications for the load you expect to be carrying.
Worn shocks. Shocks keep your wheels the firm, safe contact with the road. Worn shocks will increase your braking distance, and make the car bottom-out over bumps and dip sharply under braking. Tip: Have your shocks checked regularly.
While there`s nothing TYRES & MORE® can do to keep you from engaging in distracted driving, its fitment centres can certainly help with replacing worn parts. The chain offers free safety checks and if you visit a centre before 1 November 2014, you can take advantage of the Spring Sale, with 50% off the total fitted price of shocks and fantastic discounts on a wide range of tyres and more.
